Habitat for Humanity Kanawha and Putnam first formed in 1988 with the shared goal of helping others who have fallen on hard times. Carrying the tried and true mission of the organization, Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. They have continued their excellent work for three decades in helping local residents living in overcrowded, unsafe or unfit homes, by building new homes.

The Habitat for Humanity Mission

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization whose mission is to work in local communities across the US and the world, to ensure that everyone has a home. They operate in more than 70 different countries and work primarily with volunteers. Everyone has a right to an affordable home, and Habitat for Humanity ensures that.

In 1988 when the Kanawha and Putnam branch was founded, they hit the ground running as the 256^th affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. By their fifth year operating, they had built 35 homes and acquired acreage for even more homes.

Building Affordable Homes in the Kanawha and Putnam Area

Kanawha and Putnam volunteers have assisted in building affordable homes for local residents for more than 30 years. They work based on donations and volunteers, so they’re always looking for an extra pair of skilled hands to assist with building homes in the area. They also hold educational events and annual fundraisers so they can continue their mission of combating poverty in the greater Charleston area.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

The Charleston and Teays Valley ReStores provide home owners with a variety of home furnishings, including furniture like couches, tables, chairs, and desks. They also offer appliances, decorations, fixtures, building materials and lumber, tools, trinkets, and even flooring among many others.

These stores work solely on donations, so if you have appliances or furniture that you’re getting rid of, donate them to the Charleston or Teays Valley ReStore, so they can get a second life in a new home.
