RAM 2500 VS F-250: ENGINE SPECS & PERFORMANCE OPTIONS

Ram 2500 GreenAlthough different trucks, the Ram 2500 and Ford F-250 each offer similar engine options. Each truck introduces a powerful V8 engine at the base level, with the Ram 2500 including a 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine, and the Ford F-250 showcasing a 6.2L V8 engine. However, in terms of output, the 2500 leads with 410 horsepower, while the F-250 falls slightly behind with 385 horsepower.

While horsepower isn’t everything in terms of measuring a truck’s versatility and overall ability to handle day-to-day work, it is an important factor. The difference in horsepower on these base-level engines is significant enough to catapult the Ram 2500 ahead of the F-250 in terms of basic power.

There is also a slight difference in the standard transmissions between these two pickup trucks. The Ford F-250 comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the Ram 2500 features an 8-speed automatic transmission within its standard powertrain. These transmissions will help determine the torque each truck is able to produce.

Each truck offers a diesel-powered engine option that showcases impressive torque outputs as well. The Ram 2500 includes the available 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I-6 engine. The F-250 offers the 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 engine. Each engine option can easily surpass 800 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a remarkably high towing capacity.

HEAVY-DUTY PICKUP TRUCK TOWING & PAYLOAD CAPACITY

Ram 2500 Truck Bed BlackGiven the impressive outputs that each vehicle’s engine options is capable of, there’s a pretty significant range in towing abilities and payload capacities. When equipped with the base-level 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 17,540 pounds when properly configured. The Ford F-250, on the other hand, maxes out at 15,000 pounds of towing ability when properly equipped and configured with the base-level 6.2L V8 engine.

While the Ram 2500 sports a higher towing capacity, both trucks will prove capable of performing well in towing settings. This is partly due to the Trailer Sway Damping system found in the Ram 2500, and the Trailer Sway Control found in the Ford F-250. These systems perform similarly to reduce your trailer from swaying while in transit. These systems will apply force to different tires, reducing sway and providing you with a safer and smoother drive.

Additionally, you will find Electronic Stability Control systems in both the Ford F-250 and Ram 2500. These systems will also contribute to a smooth drive from worksite to worksite, helping to keep your heavy-duty pickup riding steady.

You will find a few more stability features in the Ram 2500, though. This truck comes with a Hill Start Assist system. This will prevent your truck from rolling backwards when shifting your foot from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. This assistive tech will come in handy on uneven driving surfaces, whether it’s at a normal stoplight or rough worksite.

The Speed Control is also worth noting in the Ram 2500. This system will allow you to set a designated speed and maintain that speed without pressing the gas pedal with your foot. This will come in handy on those long highway commutes, when you’re able to rest your leg a bit behind the wheel. This system does not come standard on the F-250, but it is an available option.

INTERIOR FEATURES & TECHNOLOGY

While work may be the first thing on your mind, when it comes to picking out the right heavy-duty pickup, play should be a close second.

The Ram 2500 includes a 5-inch touchscreen display that incorporates Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth®, which allows you to select your media or phone contacts using your voice. The Ford F-250, on the other hand, features a smaller, manual 4.2-inch display.

The F-250 and Ram 2500 both come with rearview camera systems within their cabins as well. These will prove handy when maneuvering out of those tight parking spots, or even when backing up to load your trailer. The feature will automatically kick on when you shift the vehicle into reverse, so the user interface is seamless and easy.

The Ram pickup comes with an additional convenience feature. It comes standard with a push-button start system that will allow you to start your heavy-duty pickup without digging in your pocket for your key. As long as the key is within the vehicle, all you’ll have to do is press the start button to turn the vehicle on. This feature does not come standard on the F-250.
